Hennie kallmeye Jr wrote: By 1997 a new event took South Africa by storm – the ‘Million Dollar Pigeon Race’. This race grabbed the attention of pigeon fanciers worldwide. This was the beginning of an era which unveiled unknown overseas champions to the South African pigeon fraternity. One such man is DAVID CLAUSING from Nocatee, Florida in the USA who at the time was a well-respected competitor in the USA but unknown in South Africa. I followed the results of this remarkable man and his Houben based family of birds in the hot spot races in South Africa where he dominated week after week against the best in the world with such apparent ease and consistency that I could only dreamed of owing such world class birds and I decided that I simply must obtain some these Clausing birds. And so it happened in 1998, that I obtained my very first Clausing bird from a Million Dollar auction after the race series was flown. This pigeon’s band details were 1998-0141 and was named ‘Leonda’. The pigeon was rather small and unimpressive in stature. It was promptly put with our other breeding hens in a section upon arrival home, where it soon paired to our ‘Kaapse Hen’ which originated from Robert Scott. By now it was apparent that ‘Leonda’ was not a hen but definitely a cock. The pair’s first babies were reared on the floor of the hen’s section in the corner of the loft. One of these babies turned out to be a 3 x winner and a double union winner and was bird of the year in our club scoring in all 9 of the races we entered her. We were so impressed with Leonda’s offspring that we just had to collect more Clausing pigeons and slowly but surely this new brand became the backbone of our loft. In 2002 we obtained ‘another’ super hen also from a Million Dollar auction in the form of ‘Olive Branch’. This hen and ‘Leonda’ formed a formidable breeding pair and produced many champion racers and breeders, including a cock that we named ‘Tears’. By 2005 we purchased a Clausing hen second hand from an American breeder on an online auction website. This hen was a 2002 hatch with an old band from 2001 and was later named ‘Miss Money Penny’. When mated to ‘Tears’ the impact of this mating was so phenomenal and stretched across the width and length of South Africa, as the majority of our friends and customers that obtained offspring from this mating enjoyed huge success with their offspring wherever they raced. This pair is known as the ‘Magic Pair’ in South Africa and their children form the backbone of my father’s loft in South Africa. "Bella Rose" is full sister 4x Winner, "Ferrari". The best of Hennie Kallmeyer's Loft. |
